Evacuation At Texas Tech
On the night of March 13, 2025, several buildings at Texas Tech in Lubbock were evacuated, according to the Texas Tribune.
An explosion in a manhole was the cause of several fires seen coming from the ground across the Tech campus. The explosions also caused widespread power outages. The power to the whole campus has been shut down for repairs to start.
The University isn’t the only place affected by the explosion. The Texas Tech Health and Science Center also had no power.
What Caused the Explosion?
Police were called about a gas leak just after 7 PM near campus and found green flames shooting out of manholes.
Lubbock Fire officials aren’t sure of what caused the flames to be green but a spokesperson from Tech confirmed there was an underground explosion inside a manhole on campus.
What about the students living on campus?
Student halls have not been cleared, but Tech is asking the students to avoid campus and leave as soon as possible.
