The Scary Movie franchise is a comedy slasher series from the Wayans brothers. The films spoofed popular films in the horror, slasher, and mystery genres.
With Scary Movie 6 officially in the works, more than a decade since 2013’s Scary Movie 5, everyone wants to know who will be back. The first four films starred Anna Faris and Regina Hall as Cynthia “Cindy” Campbell and Brenda Meeks, as well as many returning characters. The two haven’t been officially confirmed to return, but Hall recently teased during an interview with Entertainment Tonight that she could reprise her role as Brenda.

‘I’m Not Sure How It’s Going to Work’: Scream 7 Star Admits Confusion Over Franchise Return
One of the stars of Scream 7 is just as confused as fans are over how the upcoming slasher sequel will resurrect all these dead legacy characters.
At the premiere of her new film, O’Dessa, which premieres on Hulu on Mar. 20, the actress addressed the film, but also Girls Trip 2, and the Scary Movie sequel. She teased that she might reprise her role as Brenda.
“I mean, that’s what I’m hearing, yeah, so we’ll see,” Hall teased, but she stopped before revealing anything prematurely.
Speaking about filming the movies, Hall shared, “Oh, it was so much fun, you know,” as it was her first big role. “It was such a big deal.” The actress previously appeared in 1999’s The Best Man and 2000’s Love & Basketball, but Brenda Meeks was her breakthrough role.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Reboot Gets BTS Look From Jennifer Love Hewitt
I Know What You Did Last Summer star Jennifer Love Hewitt offers a sneak peek at the anticipated slasher reboot.
“I was such a fan of Keenen and the Wayans brothers, so it was kind of like a dream come true,” the actress continued. “I didn’t really know much about the business, I had only done two films. I think I had done Best Man and Love & Basketball.” She added, “I feel really blessed.”
In November, the actress first addressed the reboot confirmation. “I’m just very excited to know that the Wayans, who actually started the project out of their idea, are back on board and at the helm again,” Hall told TV Insider. “I’m excited for them. We’ll see if Brenda is in this new world. I’m thrilled at the possibility that the band could get back together again. That would be fun.”
Who Is Coming Back to Scary Movie 6?
The Scary Movie reboot was officially confirmed in April 2024. However, since then, very few details have come out about the upcoming film. The Wayans brothers, Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory, will reunite for the first time in 18 years to write the new entry to restart the franchise. The Wayans worked on the first two films, 2000’s Scary Movie and its 2001 sequel, Scary Movie 2. However, they didn’t return for the rest of the entries after disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein acquired the rights to the franchise. Following their departure, the franchise’s quality also dropped.
However, the new Scary Movie came with an exciting update: iconic character Ghostface will be back. “The only thing I can 100% tell you is that Ghostface will return for Scary Movie 6. Marlon [Wayans] already confirmed that by taking a photo with a Ghostface and that is not me in that photo,” Dave Sheridan, who played Ghostface, said.
Hall’s return would also bring back another iconic character: Cindy. Anna Faris also addressed Scary Movie 6 in July 2024. “I would love to reprise [my role],” Faris said. “I would love to work with Regina again. I just love her so much. We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly all Regina!” Faris and Hall starred in all films but Scary Movie 5.
Scary Movie 6 comes out on June 12, 2026.
