Did Dhara Perform In The Dance Show Final?

Be Happy, directed by Remo D’Souza, revolves around the life of a bank employee named Shiv Rastogi and the relationship he shares with his daughter, Dhara. The premise of a single father bringing up his child after her mother’s death, understanding her sensibilities, and making sure she understands life for what it is, held a lot of promise, but the makers were not able to capitalize on it. The film lacked emotional depth, because of which the narrative never really accentuated the performances of the characters. Abhishek Bachchan and Inayat Verma were fabulous in their respective roles, but you can create only a limited impact if you are not backed by a strong script. Yes, the director and his team of writers have tried to put together certain gut-wrenching sequences, but it was never enough since it seemed superficial. That said, the film is not unwatchable, but when you decide to tackle certain mature subject matters, the expectation is that you will leave the audience with something new to ponder upon. That didn’t happen with me, but you can definitely give Be Happy a watch, and you probably wouldn’t be as disappointed.

Spoiler Alert

Why did Dhara want to move to Mumbai?

Dhara lived with her father, Shiv, and her maternal grandfather, Nadar. Dhara was mature beyond her years and she knew exactly how to deal with both the men in her life. Her father was an extremely protective man who was a bit strict with her at times. But her grandfather was her partner in crime, and he made sure that everybody kept having fun and enjoying themselves. Dhara, apart from being a very sensitive human being, was also an exceptional dancer. Everybody in her school felt that she would do something in the same field, but Shiv didn’t want that for his daughter. He wanted her to have a proper job and have her hobby remain a hobby. But then one day, Maggie, a renowned dance instructor who ran her own academy in Mumbai, came to Dhara’s school. Maggie organized a dance competition, and she saw Dhara performing there. Maggie was awestruck, and she gave the little girl an offer to come and train with her. Dhara was excited, but the moment her teachers asked Shiv for his permission, he immediately turned them down. The idea of sending his daughter to Mumbai seemed absurd to Shiv. He was just not ready to listen to a word Dhara or anybody else said in that respect. But then, with time, Shiv remembered the promise he made to his late wife about how he would fulfill Dhara’s dreams no matter what. Mr. Nadar tried to make his son-in-law understand that, no matter what he did, life would surprise him, and not everything would go as per his plans. Shiv hadn’t been able to cope with the loss of his wife for eight long years. Her demise had left a void inside him that he was never able to fill. Mr. Nadar told Shiv that it was about time he moved ahead in life, and that’s when the latter decided that he would take a transfer and go to Mumbai with his daughter.

How did Dhara convince her father to dance?

Dhara and Shiv both had a hard time adjusting in Mumbai. The streets were crowded, the accommodations were small, and moreover, that peace of mind, that calmness that Shiv was so used to, was missing in Mumbai. But gradually both of them started adjusting to the new place. Dhara trained every day with Maggie, and finally she was able to crack the auditions of the dance reality show she so desperately wanted to be a part of. The judges at India’s Superstar Dancer were awestruck by her performance, and Shiv, who stood there watching his little girl, saw how much it meant to her. As the reality show progressed, there came a time when the competitors had to perform with one of their family members. Dhara’s grandfather arrived to dance with his granddaughter, but he suffered an injury while showcasing his talent. Dhara had no option but to convince her father to dance with her. Shiv was horrified by the idea of dancing publicly and making a mockery out of himself on national television. Maggie and Dhara both consoled him, and finally he gave in. Shiv took a 10-day leave from his bank and trained with Maggie day and night. Shiv and Dhara were brilliant on the dance floor. Nobody had imagined that Shiv would be able to pull off such a performance, but he managed to channel his emotions and love for his late wife into his dance. The judges gave a standing ovation to both of them, but then suddenly Dhara fainted and fell to the floor. Shiv and Mr. Nadar took her to the hospital, and after a thorough check-up, the doctors came to the conclusion that the little girl was suffering from osteogenic sarcoma, i.e., bone cancer. Shiv was numb, and so was Mr. Nadar. They didn’t know how to process the information and pass it on to Dhara. It felt as if their entire life was shattered in just a moment. But then they mustered their courage, as they had to be there for Dhara and support the little girl in whatever way they could.

Was Dhara able to perform in the dance show final?

The doctors told Shiv that if proper care was taken, then there was hope that Dhara would start recovering. Dhara really wanted to get back on the dance floor, but over the next few weeks, she realized that it wouldn’t be possible for her. Dhara wasn’t even able to stand, and she was such a perceptive and mature girl that she decided to accept that she would have to quit the dance reality show. The showrunners had told Dhara that they would wait for her recovery, but she didn’t feel that it was fair for the other participants. So she informed the showrunners about it, and she told her father not to feel bad about it. Shiv was disheartened; that girl desired just one thing in life, and that too was snatched from her.

During Be Happy’s ending, Shiv found out that Dhara used to write notes for her mother and keep them inside her piggy bank. Whenever Dhara really wanted something to happen, she wrote a note to her mother, asking her to help her cause. Dhara felt that her mother was watching her and that she would never turn down her request. In one of those notes, Dhara had written that she wanted to perform in the finale of the dance reality show. Shiv realized that he couldn’t let the hope that resided in that little girl die. He realized that he needed to do something to make her happy. So Shiv talked to the show organizers with Maggie’s help, and he took Dhara, who was admitted to the hospital at that time, to perform in the reality show. Dhara wasn’t even able to stand properly, but Shiv held her hand and made sure that his little girl performed in front of the world and fulfilled her dream. Probably Shiv had understood how important it was to keep chasing one’s dream. Shiv, who never wanted his daughter to come to Mumbai, danced with her just so that she didn’t lose hope. I believe that in the future, Dhara will recover from her illness, and she will come back and do what she was always meant to do, i.e., dance.

If this portal ever falls prey to their filth—if any of their fraudulent, brain-dead propaganda worms its way into our automated news curation—then it’s open season on these slime-covered hacks.
