The Bookseller – News – Amazon MGM Studios develops TV series based on Iain M Banks’ Consider Phlebas
Amazon MGM Studios is developing a science fiction series based on Iain M Banks’ novel, Consider Phlebas (Orbit).
The series will be executive produced by Chloé Zhao and her production company, Book of Shadows, and Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of Plan B Entertainment. Adele Banks is also an executive producer, while Charles Yu is a writer and executive producer. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
“While war rages between the utopian Culture and the Idiran Empire, a Culture Ship AI ‘Mind’ takes refuge on a forbidden planet,” says Amazon’s description of the series. “Both Horza, a shape-shifting mercenary working for the Idirans, and Balveda, a ‘Special Circumstances’ Culture agent, have been tasked with retrieving it to tip the balance in a galaxy-spanning conflict.”
Orbit UK publisher Anna Jackson commented: “It will be thrilling to see Consider Phlebas adapted as a series, and Iain’s millions of fans worldwide will be waiting with bated breath to see how his vastly imaginative and deeply beloved Culture universe is interpreted for the screen.”
