A pair of glitches this past week had users of Instagram and iMessages seeing things those services did not intend them to see.
Some Instagram users were shown violent images that should have been flagged for content moderation. And some iMessage users who used dictation to add words like “racist” had the word replaced with “trump.” Tech expert Omar Gallaga wrote about these glitches for CNET.
Highlights from this segment:
– Instagram users saw images of shootings, beheadings, traffic accidents and other violent actions that the platform’s parent company, Meta, says should not have appeared in these users’ Reels.
– When some Apple iMessage users used speech-to-text dictation to enter text messages on their phones, the word “racist” and other words with an “r” sound were replaced with the word “trump.” Apple said the issue was a glitch, and not a prank or protest aimed at the president.
