Kolkata: Ahead of 2026 Assembly elections, Trinamool Congress (TMC) national secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee held a video conference with party workers and leaders over the ‘fake’ voter issue.
According to sources, Banerjee had cited the example of Maharashtra Assembly election where allegedly 39 lakh voters added in 4 months before the election in front of the workers and have asked them to be on the ground till the elections starts so that no ‘fake’ voters should get added in the voters list.
“Several new committees are made to reach to the block level to scrutinize the voters list. The verification will start from April 16. India’s democracy is under siege. BJP, in collusion with the ECI, has hatched a conspiracy to disenfranchise Bengal’s electorate. Multiple voters, primarily from BJP-ruled states, have been assigned the same EPIC number in Bengal – a sinister plot to plant fake voters and manipulate the 2026 Assembly elections,” said the sources.
The sources also mentioned that the TMC national secretary had questioned the role of the Election Commission.
“During 2021 polls an example of conducting WB polls in multiple phases during Covid was decided by EC, in 2024 DMs, police were changed and after 2014 EC has been compromised multiple agencies sent here in Bengal,” further added the sources.
Taking potshots Banerjee also warned that no one should ‘extort’ money taking his or i-pac’s name.
“We have noticed many people are trying to extort money in the name of ipac or Abhishek Banerjee’s office. We filed a police complaint against them. A phone number has been shared to report if anyone tried to claim from ipac and dupe leaders,” stated the sources.
Slamming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Banerjee claimed, “We are giving Lakshmir Bhandar without any assistance from the central government. This Jaali Party, see what they did in Maharashtra, before polls they made a promise that they will give money and later held the funds and cut the budget. Their leader claimed will stop Lakshmir Bhandar in Bengal before polls. BJP is yet to take any action against that leader.”
