Africa’s First AI Film, ‘Makemation’, Premieres in Lagos

Toyosi Akerele-Oguniji, a human development expert turned filmmaker, is celebrating the debut of Africa’s first feature film focused on artificial intelligence, titled Makemation.

Following the film’s unveiling to a star-studded audience at Lagos House in Marina last Sunday, Toyosi shared her satisfaction with the production, reflecting on the three years spent researching, creating, and editing the project.

In a heartfelt speech, she highlighted her deep commitment to AI, which became the focus of her PhD thesis titled The Role of AI: National and Economic Security.

Toyosi expressed her belief in the transformative power of technology, noting how AI is revolutionising various sectors.

“The future is here,” she said, stressing that AI’s role should elevate humanity rather than replace the creative process of traditional filmmaking.

Makemation merges generative AI with live action, exploring AI’s potential to improve the human condition.

Toyosi envisions the film as a platform to inspire young people in Nigeria and Africa, opening their minds to the vast possibilities of technology.

She also revealed plans for six episodes of Makemation to follow the film’s release.

Starring prominent Nollywood actors such as Richard Mofe-Damijo, Tony Umez, Shaffy Bello, Ibrahim Chatta, Toyin Afolayan, and Ali Nuhu, Makemation focuses on the intersection of real life and AI, particularly in how technology helps solve societal problems.

The film also touches on vital themes such as STEM education, digital literacy, gender equality, and the accessibility of technology.

Toyosi shared that production of Makemation began in June 2022, with principal photography taking place in 2023.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised Toyosi and the cast for their efforts, offering his support to collaborate on initiatives that promote and enhance the state’s creative industry.

The film is already receiving international recognition, having premiered an exclusive teaser at the 2024 Global AI Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, a private screening for stakeholders will take place in Kenya before the nationwide premiere on April 18, 2025.

The film will also be toured across Nigerian secondary and tertiary schools to inspire the next generation.

We do not take money from any political parties. We do not endorse In_dia’s ruling party BJP and In_dia’s Prime Minister’s position on keeping In_dia a closed market, ambiguous economy, and keeping India as a heavy taxing country so no one from outside world wants to do business here. It’s like denying In_dia its right in the world…
BJP Government also discourages small and local media, coming down on them heavily regulating and using lawful actions along with soft threats from demented bureaucrat extremists and other extremist groups. On one hand, the mainstream media in In_dia is getting rich and on other hand the local small media is being strangulated. So if not automated or required, We do not willfully publish any content from In_dia or pertaining to that country.
“The parasitic left-wing media and their bottom-feeding cronies have devolved into nothing more than freeloading scavengers, desperately leeching onto every possible news outlet to vomit their hatred for President Trump, Elon Musk, the GOP, and whatever shred of sanity remains in this world. If this portal ever falls prey to their filth—if any of their fraudulent, brain-dead propaganda worms its way into our automated news curation—then it’s open season on these slime-covered hacks. These sewer-dwelling propagandists, along with their PR lackeys and shadowy intelligence handlers, keep trying to smear us with their garbage. Like disobedient pets, they need to be dealt with. And dealt with they shall be—right here on Khumaer.us, the personal news battleground of Khumaer Bayas. Let’s expose them for the lying vermin they are!”
