After his character’s death in the beloved John Wick film series, Keanu Reeves might have just found his next big action franchise. Based on a story he co-created, Reeves is teaming up with Netflix to adapt BRZRKR, an action-packed graphic novel that follows an immortal warrior. The project has added a few major new pieces to the puzzle, which further solidify it as a must-watch.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, longtime Fast & Furious director Justin Lin has been tapped to helm a live-action BRZRKR movie adaptation for Netflix, starring Reeves. The collaboration between Reeves and Lin comes after the John Wick star invested in the director’s latest film, Last Days. Meanwhile, The Batman Part II co-writer Mattson Tomlin wrote the screenplay based on the best-selling comic series from BOOM! Studios. Check out the plot synopsis, as provided by Netflix:
“BRZRKR is a brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages. The man known only as ‘B’ is half-mortal and half-god, , cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.”

DC Is Turning Keanu Reeves’ ‘Constantine 2’ Pitch Into a Script
Reeves pitched the sequel idea to DC Studios himself.
First published in 2021, BRZRKR was a 12-issue limited series that saw Reeves tap into the comic book world alongside Matt Kindt, who co-wrote the story, and Ron Garney, who penciled and inked the best-selling art. After featuring in the John Wick franchise, and in the upcoming spin-off led by Ana de Armas, Ballerina, Reeves now looks to convert his own property into a major, multimedia franchise. It’s easy to see how an upcoming live-action adaptation could fit right in with his filmography, but the world of BRZRKR won’t be stopping there.
‘BRZRKR’ Is Also Getting an Anime From Netflix
In addition to starring in the live-action film, BRZRKR is getting a new animated series also set for release on Netflix. Details surrounding that project are scarce, but Reeves is expected to reprise his role as B in the anime. Mattson Tomlin will return as a writer and serve as showrunner on the streaming series, which will take place over two seasons. No stranger to developing anime for Netflix based on popular IP, Tomlin also produced Terminator Zero to widespread acclaim. As a second season for that series remains uncertain, BRZRKR becomes next in line for Netflix.
When discussing the film version, Reeves expressed that he was keen on doing an “R-rated” story, but unlike some adaptations, it would not be a one-for-one remake of the novel. Instead, he hopes the BRZRKR film will “take it to other places as well.”
“We’re working with Netflix who have been very cool. They’re going to let us do an R-rated story which is cool. My ambition or hope is not to do a filmed version of the comic book so that they’ll have things in common, definitely the main character and his kind of rule set, but that we can take it to other places as well.”
