After a seven-year absence, former NEC national solutions manager Mike Sellars has returned to the technology consultancy in a new role as vice president in the Chief Technology Office.
Mike Sellars rejoins NEC Australia in Perth after having served for the past four years as chief technology officer at Datacom, where he altogether spent six and a half years preceded by a brief stint at Fujitsu following his earlier departure from NEC.
NEC said the newly-created Vice President role in its Chief Technology Office reinforces its commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions for government and enterprise clients, and further builds on the launch of its digital government Centre of Excellence in Perth in 2023.
“NEC has a strong legacy of delivering innovative, high-impact technology solutions, and I’m excited to build on that foundation with a focus on driving technology strategy and enhancing NEC’s digital and managed services,” Sellars said of his return. “I look forward to working with the team on transformative solutions for our clients.”
In the early part of his 25-year career in the Australian IT industry, Sellars spent brief stints with a number of companies– including Accenture and Kroll Ontrack – before first landing at NEC in 2013 as a service delivery manager in Brisbane, and then later moving across the country to take up the role of national solutions manager for market platforms based out of Perth.
In this capacity, he was tasked with the growth and development of a portfolio of innovative industry services and solutions including those aimed at the Western Australian government segment, and is credited by the firm with having made a key contribution to NEC’s GovNext program.
Following that stint, Sellars served briefly as the WA state lead architect for Fujitsubefore joining Datacom in 2018 and ultimately being promoted as the global IT consultancy’s Australian CTO, with responsibility for leading digital solutions, national strategic initiatives, and the company’s tech-focused service evolution.
Now, in his new post, Sellars will have oversight for NEC’s own solutions development, along with the advancement of the firm’s architecture practice and digital and managed services offerings, drawing on his expertise in tech strategy, commercial management and program leadership, as well as his experience in personally driving large-scale transformations.
“With his extensive expertise, industry knowledge, and proven track record, Mike will be instrumental in shaping NEC’s technology direction and delivering high-value, future-ready solutions for our clients,” said Keith Morrison, who joined the firm as senior vice president of digital government and digital finance towards the end of last year
Also crossing from Datacom, and with an earlier background at Kinetic IT, Morrison is just one of a number of other senior appointments recently made at NEC. Other promotions and recruits over the past few months include Godwin Chai as head of sales and Lynne Barry as vice president of legal & compliance, with A/NZ CEO Jason Price coming on board in late 2022.
