JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey sent a letter to the Department of Government Efficiency and Elon Musk on Thursday calling for an immediate investigation into federal funding for the Grain Belt Express project.
The project proposes constructing massive transmission lines across Missouri to transport wind-generated energy from Kansas to other states. According to Bailey, it has sparked widespread outrage among Missouri farmers and landowners whose properties it may affect.
Now Bailey says he is urging DOGE to immediately investigate and cancel federal funding for the project, which is set to receive nearly $5 billion.
Invenergy, the company that is building Grain Belt Express, says it will lead to 1,500 direct jobs and $1.3 billion in economy activity during construction. The route would run through areas including Randolph, Boone and Callaway counties.
The company has begun filing eminent domain petitions to seize land in Missouri, according to the Missouri Independent.
