U.S. Department of Defense officials remain tight-lipped about potential civilian layoffs at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City.
FOX 25 contacted Public Affairs at the base on Friday regarding the potential layoffs after receiving several tips.
The office on base directed FOX 25 to DoD Public Affairs in Virginia.
An Air Force official then sent us this statement and referred us to this article:
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has indicated that the Pentagon is taking a deliberate, methodical approach to review its workforce and identify positions that may not directly contribute to warfighting success. There has been no direction to relieve Air Force employees at this time.
The Department of Defense has sent lists of probationary employees to the Trump administration, according to FOX News.
The agency temporarily paused a plan to carry out mass firings on Friday, until a more thorough review of the impacts the firings could have on U.S. military readiness.
The mass terminations could affect more than 50,000 people across the nation. They had been expected to start on Friday.
The Pentagon has around 950,00 civilian employees. Probationary employment typically lasts for a year.
Military personnel have been exempted from sweeping budget cuts, according to the Trump administration.
