Roshni Nadar Malhotra is now India’s third-richest person after inheriting 47% of Shiv Nadar’s stake in HCL Corp and Vama Sundari Investments, boosting her control over HCL Tech.
Who is Roshni Nadar?
Roshni Nadar Malhotra has become India’s third-richest person after execution of a major succession plan within the HCL Group. She received 47 per cent of her father Shiv Nadar’s stake in HCL Corporation and Vama Sundari Investments (Vama Delhi). This transition has strengthened her control over HCL, a $12 billion global technology company.
Before the stake transfer, HCL founder Shiv Nadar owned 51 per cent of both HCL Corporation and Vama Delhi. The stake transfer was part of a private family arrangement. This ensured that the promoter family continued to own and lead HCL. An exchange filing confirmed that the “Gift Deeds have been executed” to streamline succession and provide stability to the company’s leadership.
Shiv Nadar, the founder of HCL, is a Padma Bhushan awardee. He is known for his role in shaping India’s IT industry. His wife, Kiran Nadar, is a well-known art collector and philanthropist. She founded the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and is also a contract bridge player. She won a bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games.
Steering HCL Tech From July 2020
Roshni Nadar, the only child of Shiv Nadar, became chairperson of HCL Technologies in July 2020. She also leads the philanthropic work of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which focuses on education and social development.
Roshni Nadar’s Role in HCL
HCL was founded in 1976 and has played a key role in India’s IT industry. Under Roshni’s leadership, the company aims to expand globally. The stake transfer makes her the majority shareholder of HCL Corp and Vama Delhi. These are the main promoter entities of HCL Technologies and HCL Infosystems. She now holds voting rights over HCL Corp’s 49.94% stake in HCL Infosystems and Vama Delhi’s 12.94% stake.
This move strengthens Roshni Nadar’s influence in the company. It ensures that HCL remains under the control of the Nadar family. With this change, Roshni is set to guide HCL’s future growth and global expansion.
