Kingston first look
GV Prakash-starrer Kingston is a sea adventure film, which has been marketed as the first of its kind in Indian cinema. The film is written and directed by debutant filmmaker Kamal Prakash, and features Divya Bharathi as the female lead.
The film has collected Rs 90 lakh at the box office in India on its first day. The film is expected to get picked up during the weekend, but given its genre specificity and critical reception, Kingston will seemingly have a low start at the box office.
The film marks GV Prakash’s 25th outing as the lead actor. It also features Dhivyabharathi, Chetan, Azhagam Perumaal, Elango Kumaravel, Sabumon Abdusamad, Antony, Arunachaleswaran, Rajesh Balachandiran and others in prominent roles. The film has music composed by GV Prakash Kumar, cinematography handled by Gokul Benoy and editing by San Lokesh.
The film is billed to be the first sea adventure horror film in India. It revolves around the fishing village of Thoovathur. The coast of Thoovathur has been banned from fishing, despite a hamlet living by the coast whose main source of income is from the sea. Rumour has it that the sea is cursed and the fishermen who venture out into the waters are never to return. Kingston is a part of the fisherfolks, who are the handymen of Thomas, the kingpin of the smuggling trade of the region. Things get complicated when Kingston gets to know that he is used to smuggling drugs instead of sea cucumbers, and decides to venture out into the haunted sea himself, only to unearth dark secrets of the past.
The film opened to negative reviews upon its release.
