Leavitt Calls Democrats’ Joint Address Response ‘Disgraceful’

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday slammed House and Senate Democrats for failing to applaud for the families of deceased Americans during President Donald Trump’s Tuesday night address to a joint session of Congress.

Less than 10 minutes into Trump’s speech Tuesday night, House Speaker Mike Johnson had to order the removal of Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, who repeatedly interrupted Trump and waved his cane in the air. Democrats held up signs with messages such as “That’s a lie,” “False,” and “That’s Not Normal.”

According to Leavitt, the only thing Democrats clapped for during Trump’s historically long speech was funding of Ukraine in its war with Russia.

“It was the most shameful moment in the history of presidential addresses in that beautiful chamber, and what was supposed to be a unifying moment for our country, Democrat members of Congress instead screamed at the president of the United States, who was just overwhelmingly reelected by their constituents, walked out of the chamber, and worst of all, they disrespected the American people,” Leavitt said.

Democrats did not stand for a young female volleyball player who was permanently injured when a biological male who “identifies” as female spiked the ball in her face at an estimated 65 mph; a 13-year-old boy battling brain cancer; cutting taxes; or two mothers whose daughters were killed by illegal immigrants.

“One of the only things that could get Democrats off their feet last night was cheering for Ukraine, not for America,” Leavitt said, adding that congressional Democrats’ response to Trump’s address exposed them as “the party of insanity and hate, the party that wants to put America last.”

“They’ve allowed their Trump Derangement Syndrome to stop them from celebrating America and our people,” Leavitt said, “and we will not allow them to forget that.”
