Louisiana’s Oil & Gas Industry Fights Back!

LOUISIANA, La. (KPEL News) — Louisiana has long been an oil and gas powerhouse, but over the past four years, the energy industry has been hamstrung by excessive bureaucracy, burdensome regulations, and what many see as an anti-energy agenda from the Biden Administration. However, change is on the horizon as House Republicans take action to reverse what they call a “reckless assault” on the energy sector.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson announced today that House Republicans are leveraging the Congressional Review Act to roll back Biden-era energy policies and advance President Trump’s America First energy agenda.

H.J. Res. 35 – Repealing the Biden Administration’s Tax on Natural Gas

One of the key measures introduced is House Joint Resolution 35, aimed at repealing what Republicans refer to as the Biden Administration’s Natural Gas Tax.

In a statement, Speaker Mike Johnson declared:

“House Republicans have rolled back the disastrous natural gas tax imposed by Democrats. This overreach has driven up energy prices, hurt domestic natural gas production, and increased reliance on foreign energy—without delivering any so-called environmental benefit.”

He added:

“House Republicans are using the Congressional Review Act to support President Trump in undoing the damage of the Biden Administration’s war on American energy.”

According to the Institute for Energy Research, Biden’s rule effectively bans non-condensing gas water heaters by imposing efficiency standards that only more expensive condensing units can meet.

Speaker Johnson criticized the regulation, stating:

“We refuse to allow this unnecessary, ridiculous last-minute rule to continue raising prices, eliminating jobs, and restricting affordable, reliable choices for American households. The American people have made it clear—they want lower costs and more choices. We are keeping our promise to undo the damage of the last administration by cutting costs, protecting choice, and rejecting these damaging regulations.”

A Turning Point for Louisiana’s Energy Sector

While it may take time to fully reverse the damage caused by years of excessive regulation, these votes mark an important first step in restoring Louisiana’s energy industry to its former strength. With House Republicans leading the charge, Louisiana’s oil and gas leaders are hopeful for a revival of domestic energy production, reduced dependence on foreign resources, and a renewed commitment to American energy independence.
