Finnish people may be quiet in nature, but their design choices are bold. At least when it comes to the well-known fashion brand, Marimekko, which recently expanded into their first-ever denim collection last year.

Now, the brand is bringing its Finnish culture across Asia for their touring pop-up exhibition, called “The Field of Flowers,” which focuses on floral-themed designs.

The exhibition will tour across Asia after kicking off in Osaka, Japan, in March, and then travel to three other locations throughout the year; Bangkok, Thailand, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This exhibition features 25 new floral print designs by five selected artists. It includes works by Finnish textile artist Erja Hirvi, Japanese textile artist Masaru Suzuki, Aino-Maija Metsola, who has collaborated with Marimekko since 2006, Helsinki graphic designer Antti Kekki and Eija Vehviläinen, a designer and textile artist who has worked with the brand since 1995.

The new artworks will be on display and available in exclusive limited-edition Marimekko products that can be purchased at the exhibitions, which will run throughout April. The pop-up exhibition captures the unique prints of these five artists, who each explore floral themes through Marimekko’s products.

These new artworks aim to build on Marimekko’s artistic and design legacy, which has over 3,500 prints in its archive. The brand’s floral patterns symbolize joy, beauty and the timeless love of bold abstraction in an era of quiet luxury. Their distinct motifs celebrate the art of printmaking and are an ongoing source of inspiration for the latest generation of designers.

Just last year, Marimekko celebrated its 60 year anniversary for its most globally recognized floral print, called the “Unikko” print. The brand celebrated this milestone with special product launches throughout the year. Now that we are in 2025, Marimekko is continuing the celebration with more floral designs, in all shapes and sizes, both old and new.

Marimekko is currenlty owned by Mika Ihamuotila, the company’s president and CEO. It was first founded in 1949 by Viljo and Armi Ratia, a couple who asked their friends to create graphic prints for their products. It was built on a bold vision. “One has to dream, and one must stand out from the rest,” Armi Ratia once said.

“We are excited to work with these five talented print designers and continue the tradition of inviting artists to explore our ever-evolving fascination of the floral theme in the art of printmaking,” said Rebekka Bay, the creative director at Marimekko. “These new floral prints capture the joyful and optimistic philosophy of Marimekko through their unique essence.”

She adds: “The Field of Flowers pop-up exhibition embraces the abundance of different floral subjects, boldly mixing them together, and transforming the space into a joyful expression of Marimekko flowers.”
