Thalapathy Vijay’s farewell film to release for Pongal 2026, just in time before TVK contests in TN elections

Thalapathy Vijay, who has been actively involved in politics, is also working on his last feature film Jana Nayagan with director H Vinoth. The film, is in the production stages, with the makers releasing the first look poster of the film in January this year. While the film was announced to release in October 2025 at the time of project unveiling, it now expected that Jana Nayagan has been pushed to a later window.

We had earlier reported that Jana Nayagan is the title of the upcoming 69th film of actor Vijay, who has announced his full-time political entry soon. Jana Nayagan is touted to be the actor’s farewell film, with Vijay already focussing on his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam political activities. Now, as per the latest reports, the shooting of Jana Nayagan is expected to get wrapped up by June. The film was announced to have October 2025 release. However, now, the makers are looking for January 2026 window, right in time for Pongal. It is to be noted that if Jana Nayagan is indeed coming in 2026, it will also be the same year, Vijay’s party will be contesting in elections, making his debut.

Apart from Vijay, the film also features Pooja Hegde as the female lead, reuniting with the actor for the second time after the 2022 action-drama Beast. Actors Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and others are also part of the film.

Jana Nayagan is directed by H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions. Anirudh Ravichander is scoring the music for the film. Sathyan Sooryan ISC cranking the camera. Anl Arasu is the action coordinator.

Meanwhile, on the political front, Vijay had recently organised Iftar party for the ongoing Ramadan season, and had been strongly criticising the ruling party of Tamil Nadu, DMK, for its shortcomings. It will be interesting to see Vijay’s political career in 2026.
