An exhibition of fine art works by masters from foreign countries has been opened in the State Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan, in honor of 2025 being declared the International Year of Peace and Trust. By the nature of the exhibited works, the exhibition is rightfully granted international status.
The international exhibition has drawn the attention of members of the Union of Artists of Turkmenistan, students and faculty of the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan, as well as art enthusiasts from foreign representatives in our country.
During the ceremonial opening, prominent artists from neighboring and distant countries delivered congratulatory messages to their Turkmen colleagues via video monitors, celebrating the launch of such an exhibition.
The initial exposition featured paintings by graduates of the Academy of Arts depicting modern Turkmenistan, taken from the Golden Fund collection. Among them were «City of Arkadag» by Shukur Roziyev, «Peace» by Hanmyrat Hanov, and others.
The next exposition showcased works by Turkmen artists who had traveled abroad for creative assignments and presented their impressions through paintings. Among these were Ovezmuhammet Mametnurov’s «Gondolier»(Venice) and «Bridge in Amsterdam» (Netherlands), Charymyrat Yazmyradov’s «Golden Temple of India», Ishan Ishankuliev’s «Sisters» (India) and «Qinghua Mountains» (China).
Finally, the main theme of the international exhibition focused on European fine art from the late 18th to early 19th centuries. This section included antique furniture that recreated the cozy interiors of that era through artistic decor, as well as luxurious porcelain displayed in showcases with elegant tableware and sculptural compositions.
Among the visitors were actors from the State Russian Drama Theater named after A.S. Pushkin, dressed in costumes representing ladies and gentlemen of that time period. Interestingly, one of the gentlemen was dressed as Pushkin himself. The costumed actors brought a spirit of a bygone era to the international exhibition while also symbolizing friendship and mutual understanding between nations.
Magnificent paintings by masters from various schools occupied the entire second floor of the museum. These included works such as Kolomande Brar’s «Girl with a Bird» (French school), Fritz Grebe’s «Landscape with Lanterns» (German school), Antonio Salvetti’s «Girl with Loose Hair» (Florentine school), Johann Glauber’s «Castle in a Park» (Dutch school), Josef Abel’s «Horace and Camilla» (Austrian school), and others.
Sculptural works resembling frozen images from the past were also presented. One standout piece was Luigi Guglielmi’s marble sculpture «Venus and Cupid». Bronze sculptures like Z.Kh. Purogbu’s «Albanian on Horseback» also left a strong impression.
Since the opening of the Museum of Fine Arts, one hall has been dedicated to Western European art, featuring a permanent collection of many paintings by European artists from the late 18th to early 19th centuries. For this international exhibition, the number of artworks was significantly increased with pieces brought out from museum storage.
The international exhibition undoubtedly enhances the prestige of the Museum of Fine Arts as a guardian of invaluable cultural treasures.
