Vicky Kaushal film collects close to Rs 50 crore in second Saturday; next stop Rs 300 crore milestone
Chhaava Box Office Collection Day 9: The country has been taken over by the magic of Chhaava, which has now spread across not just Maharashtra but the entire nation. The film’s Pan-India collection speaks volumes about its success. Starring Vicky Kaushal, the movie highlights the valor and resilience of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who fought against the Mughals to uphold the idea of Swaraj—a vision once established and nurtured by his father, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Chhaava was one of the most anticipated films, and its promotional content worked wonders, doubling the audience’s excitement as they eagerly awaited its theatrical release. Now, as the film completes nine days at the box office, it is on the verge of entering the coveted ₹300 crore club. Below is all you need to know about its performance.
Chhaava Box Office Update
Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under his production house, Maddock Pictures, Chhaava is based on the life of the second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who ruled from 1681 to 1689. The movie is mounted on a grand scale and also stars Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale, Divya Dutta as Sambhaji Maharaj’s stepmother Soyarabai, and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The film hit Indian screens on February 14, 2025.
According to Sacnilk, on the ninth day of its release, which happened to be Chhaava’s second Saturday, the movie earned ₹44 crore at the domestic box office. This takes its total box office collection to a staggering ₹286.75 crore—a massive feat. Another significant milestone awaits as this collection inches closer to the ₹300 crore mark, which would make it Vicky Kaushal’s first-ever film to achieve this benchmark, solidifying his status as a bankable star.
Chhaava Still
Chhaava opened with ₹31 crore on February 14, followed by ₹37 crore on Saturday and ₹48.5 crore on Sunday. The movie saw a dip on Monday, earning ₹24 crore, and remained within the same bracket throughout the weekdays. It collected ₹25.25 crore on Tuesday and ₹32 crore on Wednesday, benefitting from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti holiday. On Thursday, it earned ₹21.5 crore, followed by ₹23 crore on Friday. As the film enters its second Sunday, it will be interesting to see what new heights it reaches.
According to Hindustan Times, Vicky Kaushal shared an interesting anecdote about filming the Rajya Abhishek scene in the movie. He said, “The Rajya Abhishek sequence, where Sambhaji walks towards the throne, was incredibly special. Thousands of people were on set, and the scene was meticulously researched and long-awaited. But what made it truly surreal was when we realized that the day we were shooting—January 16, 2024—was the exact same date, 350 years ago, when the real coronation happened at Raigad Fort on January 16, 1681.”
