DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts to open up Tanzania to international opportunities are showing significant results, as the country continues to host a series of high-profile global conferences and summits.
Recently, Tanzania hosted the historic Africa Energy Summit, along with the joint summit of the East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) to address the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and Chief Government Spokesperson, Mr Gerson Msigwa, Tanzania is set to host yet another major conference in the near future.
These events not only elevate Tanzania’s global profile but also contribute to the country’s economic growth by increasing tourism, business opportunities and international partnerships.
Mr Msigwa announced that Tanzania will host the 73rd conference of the Airport Council International (ACI) in Arusha, from April 24 to 30, this year.
The event will feature the ACI Africa Board and Committee meeting, along with a regional conference and exhibition.
The ACI, which has over 75 member airports, managing more than 265 airports across 54 countries, along with 59 business partners, operates a competitive system for countries to host its meetings, which are held twice a year.
“Tanzania, for the second time since 2007, has successfully outshone other countries in Africa and secured the opportunity to host this important meeting,” Mr Msigwa said.
This achievement, he added, is a result of the government’s tireless efforts under President Samia Suluhu Hassan to strengthen the country’s aviation sector.
Key factors that enabled Tanzania to win the bid include substantial government investments in aviation infrastructure, the construction of safe, high-quality airports and exceptional services at the nation’s airports.

According to Mr Msigwa, a strong focus on passenger and cargo safety at airport facilities also played a crucial role.
Mr Msigwa pointed out the significant benefits the conference will bring, including increased market investment, expanded business opportunities at Tanzanian airports, knowledge transfer and skill development for local professionals.
The event, he said, will also stimulate economic growth as more airlines will establish operations and bring aircraft to the country, while promoting Tanzania’s tourist attractions.
Hosted by the Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA), the event will bring together aviation and tourism leaders, policymakers and industry experts from across Africa and beyond.
The theme for this year’s event, “Navigating Towards a Greener Future: Harnessing Sustainable Aviation and Tourism for Economic Prosperity,” will focus on sustainable practices aimed at driving economic growth, while ensuring environmental responsibility in the aviation and tourism sectors.
In addition, Tanzania will host the 11th East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition from March 5 to 7 this year at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam.
The event will be held under the theme “Unlocking Investment in Future Energy: The Role of Petroleum Resources in the Energy Mix for Sustainable Development in East Africa.”
President Samia is expected to grace the event, which will be preceded by a seminar on clean energy, including topics such as clean cooking energy and the use of CNG in vehicles.
“This is a major event and we anticipate over 1,000 participants, including policymakers, government leaders from various countries— especially EAC member states—international investors and other stakeholders,” Mr Msigwa said.
He urged Tanzanians to seize the business opportunities created by President Samia’s initiatives and expand their enterprises.
Tanzania has been identified as a nation with significant potential for growth in the international conference hosting market, according to recent data released by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
